YouTube Playback Tips – Control YouTube with Keyboard Shortcuts

Youtube is the most successful video sharing website where hundreds of videos are being uploaded, played every day. If you want to watch the latest movies trailers (even full length movies) or you want to share online a recorded funny video of your baby, youtube would be your first choice. If you learn youtube how to and few tricks then you can watch youtube videos in a better, easier manner. Where you have to click the video timeline bar every time you forward or reverse the movie, you can simply press a keyboard key to reach the desired time-frame of video. You can also control sound volume by using keyboard keys instead of using mouse clicks. You can be more productive while using youtube by using following youtube tips.

Jump from Section to Section

The tab key allows you to jump from one control to another at youtube video in the following sequence.

  1. Play / pause button
  2. Seek bar
  3. Volume
  4. Reslution
  5. Pop-up video
  6. Expand

Once the video is focused, it will only control the video player and loop on the video controls part. Once any control is focused, press enter to use that control.

UP and Down arrow keys will maximize or minimize the video volume.

YouTube Video Seek Bar

Seekbar allows you to use many keys. Use 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 for video progress bar or seek bar to go up or down the video timeline (go to the 10% to 90% of the video). 0 key will bring you to the beginning of the youtube video. Numeric pad won’t work. Only number keys at the top of the video will work. Jump back or ahead 5 seconds in the current video by using left and right arrow keys. Seek to the beginning or last seconds of the video by home and end keys. Use down arrow key to see the video playback controls.

Pause / Start Video

Use spacebar to pause and play youtube video.
