Email services are just getting better and better. Email system enables you to check and send emails while you are online. People always want to keep backup of their important email conversations and want emails data always available to them. One way to do that is to setup Outlook or other email programs to sync your emails in between PC and email program but for that you have to configure email client (e.g. Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Mail) and take care of settings related to Incoming mail server (POP3), Outgoing mail server (SMTP) and more. But that’s what we used to do in the past. Google offers an even easy solution to sync emails to PC. You can read and send messages by using Gmail while you’re offline. Yes, its true. Synchronize your mail to PC so you can access email without an internet connection. Follow these steps to set up your offline Gmail access.
Offline Mail gives you access to your most recent emails when there is no internet connection. This Gmail feature will download your email messages onto your computer.
How to Use Gmail Offline
- Go to Gmail > inbox
- Click gear icon in the upper-right
- Go to ‘settings’
- Select the ‘Offline’ tab in your Gmail Settings
- Select the ‘Enable Offline Mail for this computer’ (Synchronize your mail to this computer so you can access it without an internet connection) radio button
- Adjust other offline settings
- Click Save changes
- Install Google gears if you see prompt
- Allow permission for Gmail to access Gears by click the allow link
- Your messages will start downloading to your computer

Depending on the size of your account, email sync may take a while the first time, but you can check on your progress in the status box near the Settings link under the Gear icon.
You can use Gmail normally while email syncing. You don’t have to wait for email synchronization to finish before disconnecting from the internet. You can click the pause sync button to temporarily stop the email sync process. When you disconnect from the internet, the email messages you’ve synchronized will be available immediately in the browser. Gmail will automatically continue email syncing in the background whenever you reconnect to the internet.
Browser Support: Offline Gmail works only on Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 7.0, 8.0, Mozilla Firefox versions 3.0 to 3.6, and Google Chrome in Windows. If you’re using Google Chrome, you don’t need to download or install Gears, as it’s already installed on your browser.
